"Let's go down to Springs in force ... "
Background

A bronze marker atop Pikes Peak was dedicated September 26, 1906.  Dignitaries rode the cog train. That next day, the Pike Monument in Antlers Park was dedicated. The Vice President of the United States came to town. The Pike Centennial concluded the night of September 29 with a street carnival.

The Colorado Springs
Gazette reported the events of the Pike Centennial in great detail.
An Important Notice

On September 19 will be a specially important meeting of the Sons of Colorado, and it is earnestly requested that every member make it a point to be present.

The big day of the Pikes Peak celebration will be Wednesday, Sept. 26.  The Sons of Colorado are to have a part of the programme in the erection of the monument to Pike.

We must have a big attendance from the Society.

It will show the people of the state what a strong organization we are.

It will show them that we are going to take a hand in everything of a public nature that happens in the state.

It will be the means of adding a great many members to the Society.

We will have headquarters in a prominent place.  Members will use it as a meeting and reunion place.  New members will be received there.

We are going to have our own special train going and coming; every car will be bannered to show that we are doing the thing right.  But in order to make sure of the special train, and the special railway rates that will be made, we simply must know how many will go with us.  If you want to go on this special, and have the advantage of the rate,
you will have to come to the meeting on Sept. 19 and let us know how many will be in your party, so that we can give you the badge entitling you to the special privileges.  Those who wish to remain longer than this one day may do so, for their tickets will be good on any train on any day for a couple of weeks.  If you will come to the special meeting we can arrange special rates at the hotels for those who wish to remain over.

This celebration is going to be the biggest thing that has taken place in Colorado for many a day.  It is something that none of us can afford to miss.  Let us go down to Springs in force.  Let us have so many Sons of Colorado badges floating around that everybody will take notice, and every eligible in the crowd will want to "get in the game."

But if we are to make a go of it, we must, MUST,
MUST have you at the special meeting on Sept. 19.
